WHAT OCCURRED?
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of conjecture on social media that Monnapule Saleng is not happy with how he is being treated at Orlando Pirates. According to sources, the winger is upset over unmet contractual obligations, which has caused him to miss games.
Given his contributions to the squad in both the current and past seasons, the Bafana Bafana international’s extended absence has caused concern. He last played for the Buccaneers in December during their match against Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League.
Lebohang Mokoena, a legend of the Bucs, has attempted to contact Saleng but has not heard back from him. Mokoena thinks that if he has candid conversations with the team, the matter might be settled.
The Pirates may need the winger’s return to play as they compete for multiple trophies.
I’ve been attempting to reach him on the phone up to this point, but he hasn’t returned my calls or answered. Mokoena said on the SoccerBeat YouTube channel, “I tried to message him on some of his social media accounts and say, ‘Hey boy, give me a call, let’s talk.’ I’m also getting messages asking me about the boy.”
“He was at a farm, chasing cows and chickens when I last saw one of his Facebook posts. Additionally, I see that the others in the photo surrounding him are not even football fans. What do they tell him?
“Go sit down with the team and explain your predicament; the counsel (from legends) is sound and clear regardless of what it is. “The only solution is to return to the field if the team doesn’t get it right,” “Cheese Boy” continued.
THE LARGER IMAGE
This season, Jose Riveiro and his team are still vying for four big trophies: the league, the MTN8, the Caf Champions League, and the Nedbank Cup.
Saleng, who has scored two goals in four games and found the net in the MTN8 final against Stellenbosch, has been a key component of Pirates’ offensive system.
The Buccaneers would benefit from having a player of his level return to the squad as their schedule fills up quickly.
