NFL Draft Analyst Prefers Lions Selecting Two EDGE Rushers

The Detroit Lions have previously shown a willingness to select two players in the draft who occupy the same position but fulfill different functions.

With the team’s requirement for a defensive end, it is possible that general manager Brad Holmes may pursue two pass-rushers in the forthcoming draft. In the recent episode of “Locked on Lions” hosted by Matt Dery, NFL draft analyst Nick Baumgardner explained why he had the Lions selecting two edge rushers with consecutive picks in his latest mock draft.

“In my most recent mock that I conducted, I completed a three round mock, and I believe I had J. T. Tuimoloau from Ohio State being picked by the Lions in the second round and then Josiah Stewart in the third going to the Lions. To me, that mirrors exactly what they did last year with the corner position — where players are dropping, they have a strong interest in these players, and it remains a position of need. Let’s just address it right now,” Baumgardner stated. “I truly appreciate the strategy of acquiring two young players who are not identical in skill set. “
