Well-experienced ex-Lions quarterback joins Commanders.

Journeyman quarterback Josh Johnson, who has played for a record 14 different NFL teams, is joining the Washington Commanders.

Johnson’s signing signifies a return to the franchise he previously played for in 2018 — although under a different team name.

In four games (three starts) that year, Johnson recorded a 1-2 record, passing for 590 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions while completing 57% of his throws.

Among the many teams in his career, Johnson also had a stint in the Motor City, where he played briefly with the Detroit Lions in 2019. Although he didn’t get any playing time, the 38-year-old quarterback acted as a backup to then-Lions starter Matthew Stafford for the first two games of the season.

He was released soon after, as the Lions decided to sign Jeff Driskel instead.
